Asha & Andrew’s Vibrant Lacebark Wedding

Some weddings feel like a perfect reflection of the couple at their heart—full of colour, laughter, meaningful details, and an atmosphere that leaves everyone smiling long after the last dance. Asha and Andrew’s wedding at Lacebark Function Centre in Christchurch was exactly that.

After more than seven years together, these two finally tied the knot surrounded by their family and friends, and it was a day filled with tenderness, quirky touches, and plenty of energy.

A Love Story Years in the Making

Asha and Andrew’s story began in Christchurch through their shared love of movement. Both were connected through Altitude Pole, where Andrew once taught Zuu classes and Asha was a dedicated student. They are both instructors there now. Though they crossed paths there, it was actually Tinder that gave their romance the push it needed.

Andrew was instantly charmed by Asha’s nerdy streak—her ability to catch his obscure references made it clear she was something special. For Asha, it was Andrew’s sharp style and thoughtful presentation that first caught her eye. Together they discovered shared values, a love for travel and adventure, and a deep sense of humour that carried them through every season of their relationship.

Andrew’s proposal was as spontaneous as it was beautiful. Hoping to pop the question at Split Apple Rock, he found high tide had other plans. Instead, he and Asha explored Te Waikoropupū Springs, a place new to them both. Surrounded by pristine waters and a few cheeky wekas, Andrew asked the question with a simple “do you wanna?” and a ring in hand. Asha’s answer was, of course, yes.

Getting Ready at Lacebark

On their wedding day, the gardens of Lacebark were buzzing with excitement. Asha spent the morning with her bridesmaids, who were dressed in a stunning array of jewel-toned gowns—rust, golden yellow, sage, deep rose, and sky blue. Each colour reflected their personalities, creating a joyful rainbow around the bride.

Laughter rang out as final touches were made, bouquets of vibrant florals passed between hands, and anticipation built. One of the most moving parts of the morning was Asha’s private first look with her parents, a moment she had specifically hoped to have captured. Tears, smiles, and heartfelt embraces made it a memory as radiant as the sunshine filtering across the gardens.

Andrew, meanwhile, looked sharp in a blue checked suit with a golden tie, the perfect complement to Asha’s sparkling gown. He had requested candid photos wherever possible, preferring natural moments to stiff poses—a request that truly captured the energy of the day.

The Ceremony

The ceremony took place under a striking circular arch woven from natural branches and adorned with flowers. It was a simple but powerful frame for such an important moment, blending beautifully with the towering green hedges behind it.

As the bridesmaids made their way down the aisle, guests turned to see Asha approach, radiant in her fitted, beaded gown, complete with a sweeping train and veil. She carried a bouquet that overflowed with texture and colour—soft blush roses, ivory blooms, proteas, and sprigs of greenery spilling out in all directions.

Her walk down the aisle brought tears to her parents’ eyes, and Andrew’s expression said everything about his love for her.

The ceremony itself was heartfelt and full of personality. Vows were read aloud, promises made, and laughter shared as both Asha and Andrew poured their personalities into the moment. It was clear to everyone present that this union was not only a celebration of love but also of deep friendship.

The kiss sealed it all, and the confetti toss that followed was nothing short of spectacular. Guests showered the newlyweds in petals and paper, surrounding them in a joyful cloud as they leaned into a dip kiss, Asha’s gown sweeping across the grass.

Portraits in the Gardens

After the ceremony, the couple slipped away with their bridal party for photos. The gardens of Lacebark provided endless backdrops—trimmed hedges, romantic gazebos, white gates overlooking the countryside, and blooming archways.

The bridal party, a lively and colourful group, strolled the lawns together, sharing jokes and hugs. Their mismatched gowns and suits gave the photos a relaxed, stylish edge, reflecting the laid-back but vibrant feel of the whole day.

For Asha and Andrew, portraits became a chance to breathe together after the whirlwind of the ceremony. Against the greenery, they shared quiet smiles, playful glances, and tender embraces. Whether it was Andrew leaning into a dip under the iron archway or Asha standing strong and regal with her bouquet in hand, the images spoke of their chemistry and confidence as a couple.

The Reception

Inside Lacebark, the reception space glowed with fairy lights and floral arrangements. Long tables encouraged conversation and laughter, with greenery and candles hanging above to create an inviting, intimate atmosphere.

Asha and Andrew’s cake was a showstopper—a three-tier creation decorated with pressed edible flowers, topped with quirky Lego figurines. It was the perfect mix of elegance and playfulness, a nod to the couple’s love for creativity and fun.

Guests enjoyed heartfelt speeches, from teary reflections to bursts of laughter. Parents, friends, and family shared their words, reminding everyone how deeply these two are loved. Asha herself spoke with confidence and emotion, holding Andrew’s gaze as she thanked their guests and reflected on their journey together.

There were plenty of laughs too—moments of storytelling that had the crowd roaring, and little surprises (including Polaroids and cheeky toasts) that added to the night’s spirit.

When it came time to cut the cake, Asha and Andrew’s smiles were as wide as ever, their hands entwined around the knife. Soon after, the dance floor came alive.

Dancing into the Night

The first dance was electric. Asha and Andrew twirled, dipped, and laughed through their steps, clearly having the time of their lives. The energy built with every movement, guests clapping along and cheering as the couple spun across the floor.

By the time the music carried into the evening, everyone was up dancing—celebrating not just a wedding, but the union of two people who truly bring out the best in one another.

A Celebration of Love

From their colourful bridal party to the heartfelt first look with family, from the confetti-filled ceremony exit to the joyful chaos of the dance floor, Asha and Andrew’s Lacebark wedding was a celebration in every sense.

What stood out most was how much of themselves they wove into their day. The playful cake toppers, the mix of candid and cinematic portraits, the vows that blended tenderness with humour—it was all unmistakably Asha and Andrew.

Their wedding reminded everyone present that love isn’t about perfection—it’s about finding the person who sees your quirks, your passions, your values, and choosing them every single day.

And at Lacebark, on a sunny Christchurch afternoon surrounded by laughter and petals, that’s exactly what these two promised each other.
