Christchurch Styled Wedding Shoot with Matt & Pauline

Matt & Pauline – A Christchurch City Styled Shoot

There’s something magical about the way love can light up a city street. For Matt and Pauline, that spark was impossible to miss. Though this styled shoot was set in the heart of Christchurch, their love story started much further away, in the warm air and golden light of Bali. Pauline, with her French charm and vibrant energy, met Matt, the quintessential Kiwi with a cheeky sense of humour and a class-clown grin that could brighten anyone’s day.

The two have already celebrated their vows with a wedding on Waiheke Island, but stepping in front of my lens as models for this workshop felt like a second chance to celebrate their joy. And celebrate they did—with laughter, with elegance, and with plenty of twirling through the cobbled laneways around O.G.B and the Mayfair Hotel.

A City Adventure of Love

We began our journey at at the Mayfair hotel and ended at the O.G.B Building. Its stone façades and timeless presence made the perfect backdrop for Matt and Pauline to slip seamlessly into roles that felt less like “models” and more like simply themselves—two people entirely lost in each other.

Pauline, radiant in her chic, short ivory gown, looked every bit the Parisian muse. The playful hemline gave freedom to run, dance, and be swept up into Matt’s arms. Her laughter rang out against the stone, catching the attention of passers-by who couldn’t help but smile.

Matt, dressed in a light linen suit, played the role he was born for. Equal parts romantic and entertainer, he had Pauline—and everyone else—grinning through the entire afternoon. Watching him twirl her across the courtyard or scoop her up in a spontaneous embrace, you couldn’t help but feel this was love at its most effortless.

The Flowers That Framed It All

No styled shoot is complete without florals, and the bouquet from Botanic Press was a piece of art in itself. Soft pastel roses mingled with lilac orchids, sprigs of snapdragons, and delicate peach tones, creating a palette that was both romantic and striking. Flowing silk ribbons in blush and apricot tones caught the breeze as Pauline moved, adding a sense of whimsical motion to every frame.

The bouquet was the kind that could tell its own story—of romance, tenderness, and bold beauty—and it paired perfectly with Pauline’s vibrant personality. Against the historic backdrops of the city, the flowers offered a burst of colour that spoke of modern romance in a timeless place.

It was here that their personalities truly unfolded for the camera. Pauline’s warmth and openness seemed to draw out Matt’s playful side even more, and together they struck a beautiful balance—her elegance meeting his cheeky charm.

It reminded me of why I love styled shoots: they’re not just about creating images, but about showcasing how real love—genuine connection—can transform a space. A chic city hotel lobby becomes a dance floor. A street corner becomes the stage for a stolen kiss.

The Energy of Two Souls

When you photograph a couple like Matt and Pauline, you quickly realise that it’s not about poses—it’s about energy. Pauline leaned in with her heart wide open, unafraid to laugh mid-kiss or break into a carefree run down the street. Matt matched her with ease, his humour and ease dissolving any pressure to “perform.”

Together, they radiated joy.

They danced on cobbled stones, chased each other through laneways, and shared quiet, forehead-to-forehead moments that spoke volumes. Their laughter echoed through the heart of Christchurch, and it was impossible not to feel that this was love at its finest: playful, authentic, and a little bit wild.

Why Styled Shoots Matter

For me, styled shoots like this one are more than just a chance to capture pretty pictures. They’re a collaboration—a chance for vendors, photographers, and real couples to come together and show what’s possible.

Matt and Pauline, though already married, stepped back into the role of “newlyweds” with ease, reminding everyone in the workshop how much love can be expressed in the smallest gestures. Their authenticity lifted the shoot beyond a styled concept—it became a living, breathing story.

Styled shoots are also invaluable for couples planning their own weddings. They’re an opportunity to see florals, fashion, venues, and photography all working together. For Pauline and Matt’s shoot, the florals by Botanic Press brought softness and romance to the urban textures of O.G.B and the Mayfair. It’s a visual reminder that a bouquet doesn’t just accessorise—it transforms the mood of the entire day.

Pauline & Matt: The Balance of Joy

One of the things that struck me most throughout this shoot was the balance Pauline and Matt brought to every frame. She, the vibrant heart—warm, welcoming, effervescent. He, the entertainer—light-hearted, mischievous, always ready to turn a kiss into a laugh.

Together, they created images that were not just beautiful, but real. Images that showed love as it truly is: sometimes quiet and tender, sometimes bold and exuberant, always better when it’s shared.

Looking Back

As I look back at this styled shoot, I can’t help but feel grateful for the chance to capture moments that feel timeless. Though set up as a workshop, every image carries the authenticity of two souls genuinely in love.

From Pauline’s playful kicks in her pearl-trimmed heels to the way Matt proudly carried the bouquet through the streets, every moment was a reminder that weddings—and love itself—don’t need to follow a script. They simply need two people willing to show up as themselves.

And for these two, that was more than enough.

Matt and Pauline’s styled shoot was everything I love about photographing love stories: full of laughter, brimming with elegance, and grounded in authentic connection. Though the streets of Christchurch provided the setting, it was their energy that made every frame unforgettable.

Because at the end of the day, a wedding—or in this case, a styled shoot—isn’t about the location, the bouquet, or even the dress. It’s about the love you bring into it. And Matt and Pauline brought it in spades.
